How can I get my PS3 to have sound out of my surround sound receiver , that does not have an optical output.?

Misty Vagle: You would need a surround sound receiver with an optical audio INPUT if you want to hear the PS3 audio in surround. You would connect the optical OUTPUT of the PS3 to the optical INPUT of the receiver. An output is always connected to an input, you can't connect two outputs to each other, or two inputs to each other either.TVs don't really act as home theater receivers, so you can't connect the PS3 audio to a TV and then have the TV send that audio out to a receiver, they just don't design them that way. The TV has an audio output mainly for people who want the audio from over-the-air broadcasts to be sent to a surround receiver. If there is a stereo RCA input (red and white jacks) on the receiver, you could connect the PS3 audio with a Playstation 2 or 3 AV cable, but it will be in stereo and not 5.1 surround (you need an optical connection for surround). If the receiver has no HDMI or component video inputs, then you will also need to connect the PS3 to the T! V with one of those cables to get video to the TV. So the PS3 sound would go to the receiver, and the PS3 video to the TV. A higher end receiver would simplify this, because it would have more connection options for both audio and video....Show more

Billie Bratchett: Do you had a receiver? an hdmi will solve the issue. since carry bout video and sound.
