Kate Baune: It's both...although I don't consider fisherman to be an athlete, based on fishing...it's a non-athletic sport requiring great skill but not athletics. While some fishermen may be athletic, they are not by virtue of fishing. So, it is both a sport AND recreation if used as a way to relax....Show more
Maria Bengston: oh snap i know people who live there and no its legal
Cherlyn Tefera: Nope its legal as long as they don't go in the water.
Roselee Mczeal: well technically, anything that involves training and practice for is considered a sport. im not really into fishing, but you decide whether you need to be trained to fish, or you just do it for fun and could be "lucky" or "talented" at it. also, for something to be considered a sport, sweating is not necessarily involved. there are plenty of sports that do not involve sweating.
Maynard Phoubandith: Your post headliner says fly rod but you have it correct after so i will say those reels ha! ve a small plastic drag engagement that is close to the reel foot and they can break off very easy so if it never had one when you bought it than it very well had a broken little knob which is a little white knob to turn to engage the drag.Take a look if you see a little circular hole by reel foot than it was broken before you bought it the little knob is usually on the opposite side to your handle you use to reel in....Show more
Bianca Lannier: I think it depends on what your doing it for. on tv i see a bunch of fishing competitions. Now if your in a competition or up against someone then id say its a sport, but if your just going out in a boat by yourself and just doing it for fun i would say its recreational.
Micah Schwarcz: well if your doing it for fun or food its a reacreation.if your in a tournament for fishing its a sport. because you have to practice to win (or even do good)
Fannie Collingwood: its a Pflueger Purist 1094 fly reel. If that helps
Adan Alipio: bothe
Vita Moodie: Both, i consider it ! as recreation when I'm taking it easy mostly on the river casting out a team of flies, I'm not concerned if I'm not catching anything, just passing some time and relaxing after work etc, then i consider it s sport when im either fishing a competition or being taken half way down a river fighting 20+lb steelhead on a 7wt fly rod and 8lb tippet, then I'm sweating and its a sport.
Antonia Mogg: Most likely its because most use thier hand as drag on the reel and that model is a direct drive
Fannie Collingwood: Its both.People like Al Lindner and Bob Izumi do it for a living, while I do it for mostly recreation.I want to become a professional angler.
Elinore Schlinker: both some people like me take it very seriouslyfor some people its a job
Lucrecia Laurito: Neither, it's a religion.
Jacinta Moitoso: both
Clifford Gombos: Both;Sometimes I fish really seriously (especially when tournament fishing) straining to see through the reflected sun all ! day non-stop changing lures and techniques to find the big ones. It wears you out, sore arms, sore back, sunburned, and headaches are common. I would consider this sport fishing.Other times I just kick back and even nap some of the time caring less if I get a bite or not. just enjoying the fresh air warm sun, and sounds of the great outdoors. (this is relaxing to me) I would consider this recreation fishing....Show more
Weldon Totaro: A lot of fly reels do not have an adjustable drag. You can apply drag to the reel to slow a running fish by "palming" the reel. This means using the palm of your retrieving hand against the outside rim of the reel to apply pressure to it. You should only need to do it if you are catching really large fish like salmon, steelhead, or saltwater fish. It's rare that you have to palm a reel if you're fishing for regular trout. If you do have to palm the reel, wet your hand first. It helps the reel continue to spin as you palm it. I've had day! s salmon fishing when I came home with the palm of my left hand nothing! but a bruise from the reel handle slapping me....Show more
Felipa Nosis: For me, its recreation...I'm not competing against anyone
Gus Leiby: We have some antique gill nets that have been hanging in storage in the garage for over 30 yrs. Is it illegal to put an ad and sell them as antique fishing equipment?
Sherita Gallati: So I fish quite a bit using strictly spoons. One that stands above the rest of 'em is the the classic Eppinger daredevle spoon. It seems to catch all kinds of fish but my one and only knock on it is that if you tie directly onto the leading hole after a few casts it'll cut its way through the monofilament line. I've tried putting a split ring on the spoon but that method seems to interfere with the action of the daredevle. What other methods are out there that'll prevent line cuts? I was thinking maybe a braid leader will do the trick????...Show more
Keven Drumgole: Snap swivels are an option that I would highly suggest. For one! , they will, for the most part, prevent your lure from cutting the line. They also make lure changes exceptionally easy and quick. They allow the lure its natural motion, so that is no problem.
Marcelina Schossow: it's like nascar, playing video games or chess...it's a recreation.
Mayola Sylva: i call it recreation, but there is some amount of sport to it.
Roni Kurz: How about connecting it to a snap swivel? I have always used split rings, but if you dont like that action, a swivel might do the trick....Good Luck!
Raelene Cunnick: I think it's both. I have spent many a summer day on the water sweating my tail off trying to land big cats (25+ pounders). For some it is a good means of relaxation, to get away from the stress of the daily grind. Fishing is probably more recreation in that aspect, but for competitors (pro or just weekend warriors) fishing is definately more sport! My fishing buddies and I hold our own tournaments!, so it's without a do! ubt sport and recreation in my mind.
Charissa Riley: most of my f! ly reels dont have drag knobs only one does and i dont use that one i prefer to use my finger angest the handle so i control it easier
Esmeralda Pigram: The rod ISN'T supposed to have a drag. And the reel is a direct-drive, which doesn't have a drag on it.
