Edwina Fu: No car is beneficial to the environment. They are harmful while they are produced, they generate pollution ( even an electric vehicle if the electricity is produced from a fossil or other non-renewable power source ) while they are in use, and unless the car is 100% recyclable when it is no longer in service, it is harmful when it is scrapped as well.

Its fair to assume that the better MPG a car gets, the less harm-full it is to the environment. If you want to go super-hardcore about it, you will have to research which manufacturers have "cleaner" factories, and which cars have more recyclable materials.
